From the gridiron to City Hall...the fight against tooth decay is on!
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore Ravens star Steve Smith will meet with 200 + local youth as part of the Bright Smiles Bright Futures oral health initiative which celebrates its 25th Anniversary.
The kids will participate in FREE dental screenings, music, games, and a mass flip-card activity, all designed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining good oral health habits.
Tooth decay is the number one chronic health problem of children. The Surgeon General’s Report, A National Call to Action to Promote Oral Health, indicates that more than 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental-related illnesses. Children with cavities may have difficulty not only eating, talking and smiling, but also paying attention and learning at school.
Bright Smiles, Bright Futures is Colgate-Palmolive Company’s oral health education initiative. The program maintains a fleet of nine dental vans that travel to over 1,000 cities and towns each year, reaching more than 10 million children.
